Welcome to Grand Burnham Hut, a home for academic residencies and retreats in Ol Kalou, in Kenya’s highlands.

Our academic residencies and retreats welcome researchers, writers, educators and independent professionals.
The house is in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, in Kenya’s Aberdare region. Guests can work in their rooms, use shared workspaces and join others for meals.
We like to get to know a little about each guest before they arrive. Tell us what brings you here and what would make your stay comfortable.
A connection to community
Our connection to the Foundation.
Grand Burnham Hut has an established connection with the Maggie Kay Foundation, whose work centres on school gardens and child wellbeing.
Guests interested in school gardens or community partnerships can contact the Foundation. Visits require a separate agreement with the relevant school or host.
Meet the Maggie Kay FoundationA residency fee is payment for the agreed stay. It is not automatically a charitable donation, and no fixed donation percentage is promised.
